ABSTRACT

The business sector's finances have already begun to suffer as a result of decreased production and lockdowns, which have already begun to take their toll. In order to keep operations running smoothly, a significant public budget or stimulus is required to address issues such as interruptions in supply chains, difficulties in manufacturing, and paralyzed health systems. The banking and financial industry, whose prospects are related closely to those of the economy, is sure to face the brunt of the anticipated slowdown in economic development. The International Monetary Fund has reduced India's GDP growth prediction to 1.9 percent for 2020-21. There is a possibility of an increase in defaulted loans. "The downturn might potentially lead to job losses, which could put on on the retail lending books of financial institutions. The loss of revenue from tourism and the entertainment industries, amongst many other areas of business, has already damaged the economy. These and other such factors are all building up to put a burden on the economy of the whole world, which may potentially have ramifications for the next few years. The governments, central banks, and regulatory bodies in the Asia- Pacific region have each implemented their own unique set of countermeasures in response to COVID-19. These include the infusion of additional cash, loans directed at damaged companies and areas, and reductions in the policy interest rate. Additionally, it involves assistance for financial institutions in their provision of forbearance to economically viable people and companies that were negatively impacted by COVID-19.Copyright © 2022 Wolters Kluwer Medknow Publications. ABSTRACT

The relevance of this study lies in the fact that the growth of the entertainment services market as an industry worldwide suggests that it will continue to develop, despite the restrictive measures introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The market that provides entertainment services is considered as a complex of interrelated socio-economic, legal, and organisational relations between the consumer and producers of entertainment-related services in purchase and sale. The demand and supply are crucial and topical features of this market since they enable communication between the seller and the consumer of entertainment-related services. The need for such services is directly dependent on a number of factors, such as the availability of free time, the level of solvency of residents of the country, seasonality, consumer preferences, etc. The purpose of the study is to conduct a summary analysis of the state of the entertainment services market in the conditions of the imposed anti-covid measures and to propose recommendations that can improve the performance of the main activities of the entertainment services market. The following methods were used in the study: analysis, synthesis, comparison, and economic and statistical analysis. The results obtained allow assessing the state of the entertainment services market during the period of restrictive anti-covid measures and identifying those areas of activity of the entertainment services market that are currently the most promising in terms of subsequent development. ABSTRACT

E-sports and online games represent an entertainment industry that before the 2020 year was characterized by an incredible development. The COVID19 emergency has further accelerated the global process of diffusion of e-sports and online games, consecrating it as the leading economic industry in the entertainment and technology sector. This paper presents a study that is part of the URBAN GAMERS LAB project (in progress), that describes the role of conscientiousness and toxic behaviors. The study involves 227 professional e-gamers aged between 15 and 34 y.o. This project it is part of an interdisciplinary project that involves a municipality in the Emilia-Romagna region, schools' teachers, and researchers from University of Bologna: departments of psychology, architecture, and engineering. The main objective of the study is to investigate the relationship between the conscientiousness (measured by variables such as responsibility, traditionalism, orderliness, industriousness, virtue, self-control) and disturbing toxic behaviors (Mediocritizing, Sabotaging, Hostage Holding, Flaming), played by e-gamers during different phases of the online game League of Legends (LoL). Preliminary results show that for conscientiousness, there are no significant correlations with age but there is a significant correlation with gender and be part of an e-sports team. The latter is negative correlated with gender, positive correlated with been playing League of Legends and play ranked games. This aspect is positive correlated with age and been playing League of Legends. Regarding toxic behaviors, age does not seem to play an important role, that is, no correlations have been found between age and toxic behaviors. While there is a negative correlation with sabotaging and Hostage Holding and a positive correlation with flaming. Considering instead, how long they have been playing LoL, being more experienced negatively correlates with sabotaging, played with teammates who showed little mastery and positive correlated with being a victim of flaming in chat during a game Turning on been part of an eSports team, results show that this aspect positive correlates with being a victim of flaming in chat during a game and decided to mute the chat because of it. Finally, playing ranked games negatively correlates with sabotaging, and positively correlates with being a victim of flaming in chat during a game and decided to mute your chat because of it. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Purpose>COVID-19 preventive measures disrupted the media and entertainment business ecosystem, increased over the top (OTT) consumption, brought new OTT players, thus increased competition, and shaped consumer behaviour and habits. Despite this knowledge, in-depth insights into OTT's consumer behaviour, new usage habit and strategies used by subscription-based OTT platforms to maintain resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic are unknown. This paper aims to fill the two gaps in the extant OTT literature.Design/methodology/approach>This study used Eisenhardt's multiple case studies approach to derive the strategies used by the top-performing subscription-based OTT platforms in India. Moreover, a purposive semi-structured Google survey was used to explore consumers' OTT experience during the pandemic. This study analysed data using NVivo 12 (survey) and MS Excel 2010 (case studies).Findings>This study derived seven resilient OTT strategies;competitive low pricing, enhancing customer experience, launching innovative service plans, content localisation, strategic collaboration, flexibility in technology adoption and proactive sales promotion. Consequent to adopting these strategies, consumers' usage of OTT evolved from occasional to habitual. Convenience, ease of accessibility, risk of contracting COVID-19, variety and quality of content, online reviews and affordability drive consumer preference for OTT. Also, this study revealed consumers' varied OTT experiences.Originality/value>The contribution is two-fold;the derived strategies for maintaining resilience and the in-depth insights into habit formation and consumer behaviour during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is valuable for media and entertainment stakeholders like streaming service providers, OTT services, cable operators, etc.

ABSTRACT

In the recent decade OTT platforms, also known as "Over the top," have seen a tremendous rise in the number of consumers and also gained a huge market share in the entertainment industry. The OTT service most users probably interact with regularly is video OTT. Services like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar are video OTT services that provide users with a number of programming options, both in terms of a licensed library of TV shows and films and original programming. The study's objective is to carry out a detailed study of OTT (over-the-top) platforms, and how and why OTT platforms are rising in India. This study also investigates OTT platforms at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We found that recent years have witnessed several films emerging as pan-India hits, and the rise of alternative platforms has only widened the opportunities for actors and filmmakers. This study concludes that there is no competition between theatres and digital platforms filmmakers must up their game. OTT has resulted in more opportunities and redefined viewership patterns. Films and other mediums will thrive together because the same actors and makers are exploring different platforms. Copyright © 2023 Ubiquity Press. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The outbreak of Covid-19 epidemic has been a once in an event which had altered the life as we had known. Governments and authorities across the world had taken every possible cautious action to avoid the spread of this unusual corona virus outbreak with prime concern over quarantines and lock downs forcing people to stay at their homes. This epidemic had ramifications in the media and entertainment industries, with severe consequences for films, entertainment events, theme parks and other conventional sources of entertainment. As a diversion from boredom, the first lockdown imposed behavior modifications and promoted experimentation. This has made the entertainment business significantly less predictable, necessitating far more flexible and reactive content suppliers, particularly traditional broadcasters. However, as the duration of these lockdowns stretched, people started to look for alternative sources of entertainment to keep their sanity in such stressful periods. This in turn resulted into an increase in digital media consumption in India. The purpose of this study is to determine the most powerful source of entertainment of this period, including a change away from conventional media, particularly among the younger generation, while also analyzing the demands of their forefathers. It has been observed that the millennial generation doesn't prefer radio as compared to older generations do, and the decline in usage and shift in behavior is striking. The younger generation has stopped listening to the radio and has instead resorted to streaming, with many of those surveyed preferring on-demand choices. This illustrates that younger music enthusiasts just aren't as interested in radio as their elder siblings, parents, and grandparents were, which also demonstrates that streaming is generally more desirable. As part of the research, a response from more than 100 persons was sought from various generations which have formed the basis of conclusions of this study.

ABSTRACT

The internet or net as it is known today has become an essential part of our living experience. Most industries operations have been drastically altered by the internet. Because of the increasing use of the internet among the audience, the Indian entertainment sectorhas seen significant changes in its operations. Gone are the times when we had to wait a week to catch up on the latest episode of our favourite television series or look forward to blockbuster movies being shown on large screens. Consumers increasingly becoming well-versed in the new technology and the customization and personalization of products and streaming services this technology provides, are the reasons for the surge in the usage of OTT platforms--Platforms for online video content screening and streaming--and therefore preferring it over the traditional television/cable system. The future of these OTT platforms is even assuring as these online services are being made more accessible by the internet's availability. Also, with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI), OTT platforms are able to optimize their delivery as they can learn about their customers preferences and hence give a user rice experience. This review paper will attempt to explore the rise of these OTT platforms, factors influencing their success, how Covid played an important role in its growth andtheir future.

ABSTRACT

. Companies that organize family entertainment activities caught the attention of researchers during the COV1D-19 pandemic, as family entertainment became one of the main ways to relieve stress and dispel boredom during quarantine. Employees are a key asset for these companies, which ensures their market competition, and therefore the demand for entertainment services depends on the productivity and quality of their work to some extent. The purpose of this study is to determine the mediating effects of motivation in the relationship between discipline, competence, and employee performance. The number of samples used is 142 respondents from family entertainment employees in Jakarta, Indonesia. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale. The data of the survey were analyzed and interpreted with Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLSSEM). This study finds non-significant positive associations between discipline and employee performance but a significant positive association between discipline and motivation. The result indicates that competence has a direct effect on motivation and employee performance. Meanwhile, motivation (as a mediator variable) has a partial and full mediating effect, in which discipline and competence are independent variables, and employee performance is a dependent variable. Findings from this study can be used to address productivity problems in family entertainment companies. It was revealed that companies can grow and develop through discipline and competence, which lead to increased employee performance.

ABSTRACT

A raging global pandemic handled inadequately and indifferently by the Republican-led US federal government, with Dr. Anthony Fauci in a featured role;an antiracist uprising in response to police brutality;a resurgent political Right fomenting and stoking culture wars;activists’ demands for a diverse and equitable art world;increasing fiscal precarity for small, innovative live art spaces;a looming recession;and an escalating housing crisis fueled by accelerating income inequality: welcome to Los Angeles between 1989 and 1993. In this period, AIDS became the leading cause of death for US men ages 25–44;ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power)/LA called public health infrastructure to account and successfully fought for an AIDS ward at Los Angeles County Hospital. A widely circulated video of Los Angeles Police Department officers viciously beating Black motorist Rodney King, and their subsequent acquittal of criminal charges by a suburban jury, ignited five days of antiracist rebellion. The rising number of unhoused people in Los Angeles was becoming difficult to ignore, though not for the city's, state's, or federal government's lack of trying. “Multiculturalism” became a widely embraced—if sometimes cynically deployed—aesthetic and programming imperative.

ABSTRACT

The article is devoted to the study and comparative analysis of the stock quotes dynamics for the world's leading companies in the IT sector and the entertainment industry. Today, these areas are developing the fastest and most powerful, which attracts the attention of investors around the world. This is due to the rapid development of digital communication technologies, the growth of intellectualization and individualization of goods and services, and so on. These spheres have strong development potential, but the question to how their companies' stock quotes respond to the impact of such a natural but crisis phenomenon as the COVID-19 pandemic remains open. Based on the nonlinear paradigm of the financial markets dynamics, the paper considers and conducts a comprehensive fractal analysis of the quotations dynamics for six leading companies (Apple Inc., Tesla Inc., Alphabet Inc., The Walt Disney Company, Sony Corporation, Netflix) in this area before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of the application of the rescaled range analysis (R/S analysis), the presence of the persistence property and long-term memory in the stock quotes dynamics for all companies and its absence in their time series of profitability was confirmed. The application of the method of sequential R/S analysis made it possible to construct fuzzy sets of memory depths for the considered time series and to deepen the analysis of the dynamics due to the quantitative characteristics calculated on their basis. Taking into account the characteristics of memory depth in the dynamics of quotations made it possible to conduct a comparative analysis of the dynamics, both under the influence of the natural crisis situation and in terms of investing in different terms. The peculiarities of the delayed profitability dynamics of quotations for each of the companies are also taken into consideration and compared. The developed recommendations can be used in investment activities in the stock market. © 2021 Copyright for this paper by its authors.
